What does it mean?
The weight used to rate a shipment. For many air cargo services, it is based on the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight, subject to the applicable tariff, rounding and minimum charges.
In practice
Light but bulky boxes can be rated on their volumetric weight rather than scale weight.
Before requesting a quote
For an air freight request, share the actual packed dimensions and weight of each package. Product characteristics and any time or temperature requirements affect acceptance and routing. Tell the team about batteries, liquids or other handling considerations before confirming the shipping plan.
