What does it mean?
An Incoterms® rule for sea or inland waterway transport where delivery and risk transfer occur when goods are on board the buyer-nominated vessel at the named port of shipment. For container handover at a terminal, FCA is often more appropriate.
In practice
The contract identifies the port of shipment when agreeing an FOB sale.
Before requesting a quote
Before comparing freight quotations, identify the agreed delivery rule and the exact named place or port. Explain which transport stages you need included and who coordinates the other stages. This helps separate the freight request from the obligations already agreed between buyer and seller.
- Agreed delivery rule, edition and named place or port
- Transport stages to include in the quotation
- Cargo details, origin, destination and ready date
