What does it mean?
A company that organizes cargo movements on behalf of a shipper. It can coordinate carriers, consolidate shipments and arrange supporting services without necessarily operating the aircraft, vessel or truck itself.
In practice
An exporter asks a forwarder to coordinate pickup and ocean transport for several pallets.
Before requesting a quote
A clear shipment plan starts with consistent information. Describe what you are moving, where it will be collected and who will receive it. Separating the transport stages helps you compare quotations with the same scope and identify any handling that must be coordinated separately.
- Origin, destination and receiving contact
- Cargo description, package count and dimensions
- Gross weight and preferred shipping dates
